About Our Volunteers

Verciano is a small village of about 600 people. It is in the county of
Capannori, in the Tuscan province of Lucca.

Our community is very close knit and has a vibrant commitment to
volunteer service. Many of our citizens come together to maintain and
motivate various important volunteer groups.

¨ The group "Donatori di Sangue Fratres" is based in the church of St.
Stefano, and is responsible for recruiting blood donors. The three local
villages of Verciano, Toringo and Parezzana have banded together for
this effort. The current president is the dynamic Joseph Parri, and they
are always working hard to increase the number of donors.

¨ The village choral group is directed by Titian Mangani. It is another
great wealth of volunteering for the village, as it enhances our culture
to perform sacred songs during S. Messe or major holidays. There are
many concerts performed throughout the year.

¨ The group "Festaioli della Madonna delle Grazie" is composed of six
men who organize the Triennial. It is a solemn thanksgiving for the
liberation of the village from cholera that struck in the mid century.
The festival takes place during the penultimate week of August with
processions in the country, and has its climax on Sunday.

¨ Verciano has a football (soccer) sports team, taking part in an
amateur league.

¨ The group "Neonato Circolo ANSPI" was formed by the need to organize
all the parish fundraising and social activities. The president is Mr.
Paul Stanghellini.

¨ Verciano is a member of the Lucca Provincial Committee for UNICEF, a
charitable worldwide organization that certainly needs no presentation.

¨ Our groups, as seen clearly on our website, hold many important events
for the community, including those of social and civic natures
